Supervising organisation

 

A consultative Group is composed by members : Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Nigeria, Norway, Sweden, the United Kingdom, the USA, the World Bank, UN Habitat, ADB, UNEP, UCLG, FMCU-UTO, WACLAC, Metropolis. The group is co-chaired by the UN Habitat (Executive Director) and by the World Bank (Vice President Private sector and Infrastructure).

- Core funding (from US$40000 to a max. of US$500 000)
- Non core funding (Community-led infrastructure finance facility, Community-led water and sanitation facility,…)
Nota: Proposals must be submitted by local governments with the approval of their central government. Priority is given to countries where communities play a significant role.
Nota: Proposals must be sponsored (incl. co-financing) by at least one member of Cities Alliance

Priorities to specifically consider for cities

 

Poverty alleviation, citizen participation and urban governance. CDS should focus on urban governance, effective decision making and management, budgeting process, institutional frameworks, local growth, management of local economic development strategy improved access to service, securing of tenure, poverty reduction.

Urban sectors concerned

 

Urban slums, including water and sanitation related to community development.

Recipient countries in Asia (no restriction a priori)

 

Bangladesh, China, Cambodia, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Vietnam, Indonesia, The Philippines, Mongolia, Sri Lanka, East Timor. Regional projects can also be supported.

a) CDS in various cities (Kathmandu, Peshawar [Pakistan], Tamil Nadu [India]
b) Multi-city CDS at the national scale in the Philippines (US$ 600,000 from Cities Alliance)
c) CDS for secondary cities in Mongolia (US$250,000 from Cities Alliance)
d) Good Governance campaign (National urban project)
e) Community support programs in Phnom Penh (US$ 185,000 from Cities Alliance)
f) City-Regional DS in Western / central China : Chengdu, Zhengzhou, Erdos, Lanzhou, Xingxiang (US$900,000 from Cities Alliance).
